Poikiloderma of Civatte is a skin disorder that consists of areas of hyper/hypopigmentation, telangiectasia (blood vessels) and epidermal thinning. It is characterised by reddish brownish patches usually seen at the sides of the neck and face.
What causes Poikiloderma?
The exact cause is unknown but contributing factors include:
Long term sun exposure
Fair skin, skin type 1 or 2
Photosensitising agents in cosmetics, especially perfumes
Hormonal changes
Genetic predisposition
